Since 1985, Kolej Kediaman Kinabalu has been shaping generations of Universiti Malaya students into outstanding graduates and community leaders.
Kolej Kediaman Kinabalu (KK8) has a rich history spanning four decades of student life at Universiti Malaya.
The Name
Named after Mount Kinabalu – the highest peak in South East Asia at 4,095 metres – the name was chosen to inspire KK8 residents to reach the same heights academically and personally.
Construction & Opening
Construction was completed in 1985. The grand opening ceremony was held on 18 December 1987. The entire construction cost was funded by Yayasan Sabah (Sabah Foundation) – a landmark gesture of commitment to Malaysian higher education.
Legacy
KK8 has housed approximately 10,000 Universiti Malaya undergraduates over its lifetime. The college is part of Zone 3 alongside KK5 and KK10, and is governed by the Jawatankuasa Tindakan Kolej Kediaman Kinabalu (JTKKK).
